Tiger Crown Cake Cooling RackHandy for Drying Garlic and Fruit

A Tiger Crown cake cooling rack with legs

This is a cake cooling rack from Tiger Crown, a Japanese maker of kitchen and storage goods. It’s made in Japan.

It’s meant for cooling cakes after baking, but it’s also very useful for drying vegetables. Any metal cooling rack with legs will work the same way.

Why it works for drying

A Tiger Crown cake cooling rack in its package
  • Metal and easy to wash: Chrome-plated steel that rinses clean quickly.
  • Doesn’t hold smells: Unlike a bamboo basket, it doesn’t absorb smells, so it suits strong-smelling vegetables like garlic.
  • Good for juicy fruit: You can dry things that drip juice, like lemon and kiwi, without worrying about stains.
  • Legs let air through: The gap underneath helps the bottom side dry too.

What to watch out for

The specifications on the back of the cooling rack's package

Vegetables and fruit shrink noticeably as they dry. The gaps in this rack are about 1.1 cm (⅜ in), so once the pieces dry and shrink, they fall through.

Once they’re partly dry, we recommend moving them to a bamboo basket or a drying net.
